The Viking Octantis (the largest passenger ship to ever cross the Great Lakes), made a stop in Detroit on May 3. The ship has a capacity of 378 passengers. Residents shared photos and posted them on social media. It was amazing to see that the ship was nearly sold out at its first stop on Detroit River. Itineraries

Viking, along with other luxury cruise lines, will begin cruising the Great Lakes in 2022. The luxury line will make stops in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Minnesota. Viking Expeditions, the company’s newest cruise line, will launch in January. Here are some highlights. This is only the beginning. There are more to come! Stay tuned! Here's an inside look at what you can expect from Viking Expeditions.

Crew

Norwegian Cruise Line is one of the most recent cruise lines to venture into the Great Lakes. But there are also other cruise companies that do business in the region. Some customers might prefer to cruise closer home while others may want to experience new things. Ponant, for example, returned to the Great Lakes last season after a two year absence. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises plans a first-time venture to the Great Lakes, offering bilingual voyages in English and German.

Restaurants

Viking cruise guests have the option of a variety dining options. The daily servings of beef are a favorite, but guests can also choose from a variety of other options, like a roast leg or lamb. Viking and the ship's science partners collaborated to design the wet/dry laboratory, which is located on the mezzanine floor and overlooks the ship’s hangar. These ships also have state-of the-art fin stabilizers that will minimize rolling and help you stay steady.

Bars

Viking Octantis is Viking's latest expedition ship. It allows you to explore natural wonders of Great Lakes. It will visit Canada and Minnesota ports and begin its Great Lakes season early in October 2022. Viking will also launch the Viking Polaris, an expedition ship that will sail the Great Lakes by 2023. As they visit various ports in Michigan/Wisconsin and Ohio, both ships will be a significant economic benefit to the Great Lakes Region.

Ports of Call

The ship will make its first trip through the St. Lawrence Seaway. The riverside will allow you to see the Viking Octantis docking and mooring. You may want to view the ship's Turrets, if history is your passion.

How To

How to stay safe when on a Cruise Ship

There are many things to be aware of before you board a cruise ship. To avoid getting into trouble, you must know how to behave onboard. Here are some safety tips that will help you enjoy your trip.

  1. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. People are more likely to be together when they're eating on a cruise ship than anywhere else. It's easy to become distracted from your duties because you're surrounded by people who want to chat and eat. This should not distract from what you are supposed do. If you witness someone smoking or drinking alcohol, please tell them politely that they must stop.
  2. Your room key should always be with you on board the ship. This way, they'll know where to find you if anything happens to you. Make sure you have your passport handy too.
  3. Keep valuables out-of-reach Most cabins include drawers under the beds. You can store important documents such as passports and credit cards. You should also make sure that nothing of value is visible. Place your bags in the closet.
  4. Hydrate. Even though cruise ships are well-stocked with water, it can sometimes be hard to remember how much. Take advantage of the free bottled water available throughout the ship. Avoid becoming dehydrated. You will feel tired and cranky which can lead to accidents or fights.
  5. Listen to announcements carefully. Announcements can also be seen on television screens and in public addresses systems. These announcements include safety procedures, emergency exits and weather reports. These announcements will be of great importance. They may save your life.
  6. Do not leave your cabin without first locking the door. No matter how helpful a crew member appears, you should never leave your cabin unlocked. Thieves can often get in through unlocked doors. If you need to use the restroom, ask a crew member for permission first.
  7. Avoid going alone overboard. If you fall overboard, it takes time for the ship's crew to rescue you. In the meantime, sharks and other sea creatures may be attracted to your body. The best thing to do is wait until help arrives.
  8. It is forbidden to smoke in the elevator. These elevators are pressurized, meaning smoke can build up quickly. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, get off immediately. Even though the air outside is fresh, it doesn't mean breathing is safe.
  9. The evacuation procedure. Every year, thousands are killed in elevator accidents. Follow the screen's instructions if an emergency happens.
  10. You should be familiar with fire drills. Fire drills are held regularly, often once per day. Everyone on deck must evacuate when there is a drill. Follow the crew members' directions. After the drill is completed, return to your cabin and lock it.
  11. Ask questions before you accept food or drink. Cruisers frequently experience food poisoning. It is common for people to not realize that certain foods can't be eaten onboard ships. For example, raw oysters are forbidden aboard most cruise ships. If you're unsure whether or not the food you've been offered is safe, politely refuse and look for another meal instead.
  12. Take care when you use the pool. There have been many cases of passengers falling into the pools accidentally. Do not be alarmed if you fall in the pool. You may also slip and fall on the deck. Always wear appropriate footwear and pay close attention to what's around you.
